The record increase in tourist demand for Antalya, multiplied by the problems of hotels with staff, may lead to the fact that in the high season to accommodate tourists in the resorts of Turkey will be nowhere. This statement was made by German travel market expert Karlheinz Koegel, founder of L’Tur, a company that specializes in last-minute vacations, as well as the owner of HLX, a company that specializes in package tours.
First of all, the culprits of such overbooking were German tourists, whose demand for Turkey in the first postwar year jumped by 480% (!). Note that German tourists have already overtaken the Russians in the first place.
“Flights to some destinations exceeded the capacity of hotels. However, hotels that laid off their employees after the pandemic have difficulty finding staff to work in the summer season. If this trend continues, in some places you will not be able to find hotels in July and August. In summer, passenger traffic will exceed the capacity of hotel beds,” said the German expert.
At the same time, Mr. Kegel said that according to the results of his companies, they will leave behind the figures for 2019 for eight months of 2022. At the same time, Turkey is leading in terms of growth. “Compared to 2019, the number of our guests has increased by 43%, and our revenues have increased by 81%. Holidays in Turkey, especially in Antalya – have explosive demand – by 480% compared to last year. It is followed by Mallorca – 140% and Greece with 74%”, – summed up the German tour operator.
