Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Khaled El Anani has issued a decree obliging all hotel and tourist establishments in Sharm El Sheikh to obtain an international certificate confirming that they operate using environmentally friendly methods in accordance with the concept of sustainable tourism.
It is decided that companies and institutions that are subject to the provisions of this decision must bring their positions in line with its provisions within six months from the date of its entry into force.
This decision is made in preparation for Egypt’s 27th Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (COP 27) in Sharm el-Sheikh this year, and in light of the efforts of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities to transform the Egyptian tourism sector into an environmentally friendly sector. .
This strategy is in line with the goals of the ministry’s sustainable development strategy and Egypt’s Development Strategy 2030, which aim to maintain the ecological balance and sustainability of tourism and archaeological activities, encourage the transition to a green economy and promote environmentally friendly practices.
