Turkish authorities have evacuated and closed a hotel in Istanbul and detained 11 people as part of an investigation into a fatal food poisoning incident. The information comes from TRT Haber.
What happened
According to the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, the case involves a family from Germany who arrived in the city on 9 November. On the third day of their stay, both parents and their two children were admitted to hospital with symptoms of food poisoning. Two other guests from the same hotel were also hospitalised.
Despite medical efforts, the mother and the two children died shortly after admission. The father remains in critical condition.
Who was detained
Police have detained 11 individuals — hotel employees and staff of a pest-control company that treated the property shortly before the incident. Authorities are awaiting laboratory results from food samples collected at the hotel to determine the exact cause.

TRT Haber also reported a separate mass food poisoning incident during a wedding celebration in the town of Ortahisar in Trabzon province, where 65 guests were taken to hospital with symptoms of poisoning.
