In 12 hours, 131 earthquakes occurred on the islands of the Aegean Sea

A magnitude 5.5 earthquake shook the Aegean Sea today, followed by two earthquakes of magnitude 4.3 and 4.4, according to Turkish private television CNN-Turk.

According to the Turkish Emergency Management Agency (AFAD), the earthquakes were registered at 11:37 and 12:14. The earthquakes occurred at sea near the Turkish city of Dutch.

The epicenter was 23 kilometers southwest of Nisyros, a small island with about 1,000 inhabitants and an active volcano. The earthquake occurred at 7:31 am local time (coincides with Kiev) at a depth of 15.6 kilometers, according to the Athens Institute of Geodynamics.

According to AFAD, in the last 12 hours in the area there were 131 earthquakes, the strongest of which had a magnitude of 5.5.
