The wave of hot weather in Greece will continue this week, as temperatures are expected to reach 44 degrees Celsius on Monday, according to DPA.
The fire, which broke out on the island of Rhodes on Sunday, got out of control due to strong winds and droughts, according to the local fire service. So far, hotels and accommodation have not been affected by fires and smoke, but electricity was cut off on Sunday night, and three villages west of the island’s capital were evacuated.
Firefighting planes and helicopters are involved in fighting fires.
The Greek Ministry of Energy has urged the population not to regulate air conditioners below 26 degrees due to high energy consumption and load on the grid. It is unknown how long the heat will last. Some meteorologists have expressed concern that the hot weather could continue for another two weeks, according to DPA.
