On Thursday, Greece continued to fight heavy forest fires, with more than 10 cities, including two suburbs of the capital Athens, in need of evacuation as the country suffers from the worst heat in 40 years.
Neighboring Turkey is also struggling to contain dozens of fires, including one that threatened a power plant in Milas in the western province of Mugla.
Among the evacuated population are two northern suburbs of Athens and several towns and villages near the site of the archeological excavations of ancient Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games.
