German Social Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s Social Democrats passed their first election test on Sunday, winning a landslide victory in regional polls in the small Saarland, exit polls showed.
The center-left party won 43 percent of the vote, snatching first place in former Chancellor Angela Merkel’s CDU party, which showed a record low of 27 percent, according to an Infratest Dimap analysis for ARD, AFP reported.
