Will the EU require a third dose against COVID-19 by the end of the year?

If the European Medicines Agency (EMA) says there is no evidence yet that a third dose of Covid-19 will be needed, a source in the EU told Euractiv that such a scenario was “very likely”.

The media interlocutor does not rule out that this third dose should be introduced by the end of 2021, depending on the prevalence of different strains.

The American pharmaceutical company Pfizer will soon ask the EMA to approve a third booster dose of the vaccine, which, according to it, can provide 10 times greater protection against the dangerous virus.

The commission has already signed a deal with the company to purchase 1.8 billion doses to be delivered by 2023.

Israel said Sunday it would start offering a third dose of Pfizer to adults with weakened immune systems, but is still considering whether to make the booster available to the general public, according to Reuters.
