Tourists are radically changing the direction of their vacation: instead of Antalya and other Mediterranean destinations, people go to alternative resorts. One of the reasons was heat and forest fires. According to a new survey by the European Tourism Commission (ETC), the Guardian writes that three in four (76%) European travelers are adapting their behavior to the climate crisis.
However, of European tourists, a third (33.7%) said they avoid places where extreme weather events are likely, and 17.3% said they avoid places with extreme temperatures. Nearly one in 10 (8.5%) said they change their travel months, and one in 10 said they worry about extreme weather conditions.
As a result, respondents preferred Scandinavian countries, primarily Norway and Sweden, to southern France, Mallorca, and even Antalya. The boundaries of the seasons are also expanding — tourists choose to vacation in May or October.
Let us add that tourists are fleeing Turkey for another reason. As the Turks themselves have stated, it also loses to other areas in terms of the financial component. “Prices have soared, tourists are fleeing,” they write. However, these are non-overlapping target groups with those who can afford to exchange Mallorca for Norway (one of the most expensive EU countries).
