The European Union’s statistical office (Eurostat) reports that tourists spent 2.9 billion nights in hotels, hostels, and apartments in the EU in 2023.
This figure increased by 61% compared to the previous year and was 1.4% higher than the pre-crisis 2019 figure. The most significant growth was noted in Malta and Cyprus — by 20%, and in Slovakia — by 16%.
If we consider only the foreign tourist flow, then most of all in 2023 it grew in the Czech Republic and Slovakia (by 29%), and in the Netherlands and Romania — by 23%. The number of nights spent at tourist sites by domestic tourists increased by 13% in Greece, by 11% in Slovakia, and by 9% in Bulgaria.
