France urges the EU to abandon cheap flights to help the environment.
The French Ministry of Transport will propose to the EU authorities to revise the minimum price policy for air tickets in order to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
According to Minister Delegate Clement Beaune, this is how Paris intends to fight “social and environmental dumping.” The politician noted that cheap flights “for 10 euros” are no longer possible.
Tourism expert and founder of Trains for Europe, John Port, said such measures would disproportionately hit different segments of the population.
For example, wealthy Europeans will continue to fly regularly, and passengers with low incomes will be forced to forego a weekend in another country.
