Due to problems with the delivery of new Boeing aircraft, Ryanair was forced to make changes to its winter flight plans.
At the moment, the airline promises that the changes will not be large-scale “for now,” Reuters reports. Ryanair said in a statement that it would take delivery of 27 new aircraft between September and December. However, their production at a plant in the US state of Kansas took longer than expected. In addition, problems arose with aircraft repair and delivery services.
As a result, only 14 of the 27 aircraft will be delivered to the airline. Due to this, some scheduled flights will be canceled from the end of October, passengers will be notified by email in the coming days, Ryanair said.
“At this stage, we do not believe these delivery issues will impact our target for this year, which is to serve 183.5 million passengers,” Ryanair chief executive Michael O’Leary said.
He added that if delivery difficulties continue into the new year, the airline may have to lower its target. Ryanair shares fell 1.4 percent yesterday.
The airline said that due to the current situation, they had to reduce the number of aircraft at various bases. Ryanair has promised to deliver 57 new Boeing aircraft between September this year and May next year.
