Russia refuses to accept payments for natural gas supplies in foreign currency, including dollars and euros, from countries it calls “unfriendly” and will switch to ruble payments. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin during a meeting with the government, quoted by TARS.
“I have decided to implement as soon as possible a set of measures to transfer payments – let’s start with this – for our natural gas supplied to so-called hostile countries in Russian rubles,” he said.
Therefore, as Putin explained, it is planned that Russia will give up all “compromised” currencies in such payments.
The President of the Russian Federation noted that Russia will continue to supply gas to other countries in accordance with the volumes and prices set by the previously concluded agreements.
“I would like to emphasize that Russia will unconditionally continue to supply natural gas in accordance with the volumes and prices, as well as the principles of pricing set out in previously concluded agreements,” he said.
Putin added that foreign consumers should be able to carry out the necessary operations after Russia transfers payments for gas from enemy countries in rubles. The head of state stressed that future changes in gas contracts with opposing countries will affect only the currency of payment – it will be converted into Russian rubles.
“I want the government to instruct Gazprom to amend existing contracts. At the same time, all foreign consumers should be given the opportunity to make the necessary agreements,” Putin said.
