The demand to pay for energy supplies in rubles instead of dollars or euros is not a breach of contract, Russia is simply adapting to unprecedented pressure, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said today, according to Reuters.
The diplomat said that he expects Russia and the European Union to settle their differences in the next few days, TARS reports.
Moscow’s insistence on paying in rubles for Russian gas, which accounts for a third of the EU’s annual consumption, has provoked a sharp reaction from European countries, according to Reuters.
