The European Union will allow airlines to use 5G technologies on board aircraft so that passengers can use the Internet at maximum speed. This decision is published on the website of the European Commission.
It is noted that passengers of airliners could make calls and use the Internet before (if such a service was provided by airlines). But the current decision of the EC will allow the use of 5G networks on board.
Aircraft are equipped with low-power wireless access points that, via satellite, link the signal from the aircraft to the mobile network on the ground.
Airline passengers in the EU will soon be able to use their smartphones to the best of their ability, just like the 5G land mobile network, the EC said.
