According to AP News, EU residents have been warned of a high risk of terrorist attacks during the winter holidays.
“There is a huge risk of terrorist attacks in the European Union” during the Christmas holidays. This was stated by EU Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson. This is due to the war between Israel and Hamas and the polarization “it is causing in society”, as well as the upcoming holiday season.
She recalled the recent terrorist attack in Paris but did not provide any additional information clarifying the reasons for issuing this warning.
Separately, the commissioner noted that the European Commission will allocate an additional 30 million euros to strengthen security in vulnerable areas, especially in places of worship.
