According to the CCTV news agency, the longest wooden arch bridge in the country, over 900 years old, burned down in China.
The fire on the Wan’an Bridge in Pingnan County in the eastern Chinese province of Fujian started last Saturday evening, it was extinguished, but the bridge collapsed. Fortunately, no one was hurt.
It is noted that the Wan’an Bridge, 98.2 meters long, was built in the Song Dynasty (960–1279). In 1708 it was damaged by fire but was soon restored. In 1991, the bridge became a state-protected object.
