On Wednesday, the government said Switzerland had expanded its sanctions against Belarus by joining other countries in its actions after the Belarusian authorities caused outrage by intercepting a Ryanair flight in May and arresting a dissident blogger.
The European Union last month imposed large-scale economic sanctions on Belarus, targeting its major export industries and access to finance.
The Swiss government has added 78 people and seven organizations to its list of sanctions against Belarus, the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs said on its website. The measures come into force at 16:00 Moscow time.
Switzerland first imposed sanctions on Belarus in 2006 to protest what it called violations of the rule of law and human rights.
