An Australian tourist returning to his country after a holiday in Indonesia has received a hefty fine for trying to smuggle two McMuffins and a McDonald’s ham croissant across the border, NewsCorp reports.
The reason was probably the fact that the passenger misdeclared baggage with a high biosecurity risk. I must say that now in Australia there are certain rules designed to protect the state from the possible import of foot and mouth disease, which was found in pork imported from Asia to Melbourne.
Passengers arriving from Indonesia are subject to special controls. A man traveling with food from a fast food chain will have to pay a fine of $2,600.
“Biosecurity is no joke. It helps protect jobs, our farms, and food and supports the economy,” said the Minister of Agriculture.
