Sri Lanka has made a surprise move by suspending the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) requirement for foreign tourists — just days after it came into effect on October 15, 2025. The decision was officially confirmed by the country’s Department of Immigration and Emigration.
This means travelers can now enter Sri Lanka under the same rules that applied before ETA was introduced, until further notice.
Authorities stated that the change is intended to simplify entry procedures and reduce administrative burdens for visitors. The move is also expected to boost the country’s tourism industry, particularly in the wedding and MICE travel sectors (meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions).
Previously, tourists were required to obtain ETA approval before boarding their flights and present it upon check-in. With this rule now suspended, traveling to Sri Lanka has once again become more convenient.
Known for its golden beaches, lush tea plantations, cultural landmarks, and tropical wildlife, Sri Lanka remains one of Asia’s most enchanting destinations. The decision to lift ETA requirements is clearly aimed at making the island even more welcoming to international tourists.
