The Vatican has called on the Italian authorities to revise a pending parliamentary non-discrimination bill on gay and transgender people.
The media reported on the transfer of an official note from the Vatican. It says that the passage of the Zan Act, named for its developer, Alessandro Zana, threatens the freedoms guaranteed to Catholics – including freedom of thought and the freedom to organize a church. The Vatican, in particular, does not like the proposal to hold anti-homophobia days in schools. The Holy See claims that the new initiative violates the Lateran Agreements signed by the Italian government and the Vatican.
Supporters of the Zana bill welcome the expansion of the rights of LGBT citizens, as well as people with disabilities, as provided for in it. For their discrimination, they face prison – up to 4 years.
