The stewardess of the American airline Frontier Airlines showed exceptional composure and professionalism and helped a passenger give birth during the flight, according to EuroNews.
When Diana Giraldo, 35, noticed her mother was going into labor on a three-hour overnight flight from Colorado to Florida, she stepped in to help.
The waters of 27-year-old Shakeria Martin broke weeks before the due date, and Giraldo had to degenerate the baby in the toilet of the plane.
But her exceptional professionalism did not end there.
“What bothered me the most was that when the baby was born, he didn’t move,” Giraldo told Orlando TV reporters.
Giraldo made a quick decision and began to apply light compresses to his chest while rubbing his back to stimulate his lungs. The team also used an oxygen mask for the child, who only started breathing on his own after a few minutes.
As a sign of gratitude for the safe delivery, Martin named his newborn daughter Jadalin Skye.
“The whole team did a great job,” says Capt. Chris Nye. “I handed over control to my first pilot, coordinating the situation.”
“The air traffic controllers also did a great job suggesting the Pensacola (Florida) airport and getting us out and the paramedics ready.”
