Britain’s Queen Elizabeth sent Gareth Southgate and his England team congratulations before the Euro 2020 final against Italy at Wembley.
The Southgate team reached the match for the title of the European champion for the first time, having finished 55-year expectation of England in the final match.
The 95-year-old queen presented England captain Bobby Moore with a World Cup trophy when the Three Lions won their only major trophy against West Germany at Wembley in 1966.
“Fifty-five years ago, I was lucky enough to present the Bobby Moore World Cup and saw what it means for players, management and support staff to reach the final of a prestigious international football tournament and win it,” she wrote.
As England is on the brink of historic triumph, the monarch added: “I want to congratulate all of you and my family on reaching the finals of the European Championships.”
“I send my best wishes for tomorrow with the hope that history will record not only your success, but also your spirit, devotion and pride.”
The presence of the queen, who presented the Euro-96 trophy to the winners of Germany at Wembley in the final is not expected.
Her grandson, Prince William, will become the senior royal representative in the final in his role as president of the English Football Association.
