The unearthly souvenir was delivered to Expo 2020 Dubai when Arkady Dvorkovich, President of the International Chess Federation (FIDE), visited the venue of the next World Chess Championship.
Dvorkovich met with Omar Shehadeh, chief specialist of the international participants of Expo 2020 in Dubai, and showed the first set of chess, which will be sent into space on capsules “Soyuz-3” and “Soyuz-4” from 1968 to 1969, emphasizing the long-standing universal attractiveness of the game.
The event will take place at the Dubai Exhibition Center later this year.
The board has been designed with pins and grooves to hold the parts in place in weightlessness, and will be presented at Expo 2020, which will take place from October 1 to the end of March next year.
The FIDE World Chess Championship 2020, which was postponed from last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, will be held at the Dubai Exhibition Center at Expo 2020 Dubai.
The championship will be held from November 24 to December 16 as part of a diverse calendar of events and Expo events.
