Abu Dhabi International Airport is in for a big buzz during Eid al-Adha and the rest of the summer season. This is stated in the message of the airport management.
In July and August, 2.8 million passengers will use the services of the UAE capital airport, of which 414,000 will go to relatives from July 7 to 15 for one of the main Muslim holidays, Eid al-Adha. This year it is celebrated from 9 to 11 July.
Abu Dhabi Airports Commercial Director François Bourienne said: “The industry continues to recover, as does consumer confidence. Traffic during the upcoming peak season will have a positive impact on our estimates of passenger traffic in 2022, with more than 13 million passengers passing through Abu Dhabi International Airport by the end of this year.”
Late last month, Etihad Airways said it would carry 2.7 million passengers between June and August. More than 1.4 million passengers will depart from Abu Dhabi in transit throughout the airline’s network. This is more than 1,100 flights per week.
In the first quarter of 2022, 2.56 million people passed through Abu Dhabi International Airport, up 218 percent from the same period last year, when it was visited by 0.81 million people. During this period, the airport received 22,689 flights compared to 16,351 in 2021, up 38.8 percent.
Currently, the airport’s schedule includes flights from 26 airlines to 99 destinations. For comparison, in the 1st quarter of 2021, there were 18 carriers and 81 destinations.
