An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.2 struck the province of Van in eastern Turkey, CNN-Turk reports citing the Turkish Government’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).
The earthquake occurred at 11:01 am at a depth of 4.68 km. The epicenter was reported in Tushba.
So far, there is no information about material damage and casualties as a result of the earthquake, AFAD reports.
The earthquake caused mass panic among the population.
The Wang County area is a highly seismic area, where several devastating earthquakes have occurred, resulting in numerous casualties. The strongest earthquake recorded in the region occurred on October 23, 2011, when an earthquake of magnitude 7.2 rocked the region. Hundreds died, and thousands were injured.
