An explosion in Istanbul’s Beyoglu district forced the evacuation of residents of a nearby apartment building, Turkish television TGRT reported.
The reason for the evacuation was heavy smoke in the area of the explosion, which occurred in a place where underground high-voltage cables run.
According to the TV channel Haberturk, at 08.30 underground cables exploded, which led to an explosion. This caused great panic among the locals. The townspeople called the police and the fire brigade, whose teams were sent to the scene.
Four buildings were evacuated as a precaution.
Firefighters helped the elderly to leave their homes.
