Today in just one hour in the Aegean Sea off the coast of Izmir there were 47 earthquakes, according to Turkish private television NTV.
The strongest of a series of earthquakes of magnitude 4.2 occurred at 4.20 am at a depth of 23 km and about 40 km from the Turkish city of Karaburun, Izmir region.
Shortly before that, at 3.48 am, an earthquake with a magnitude of 4 was registered in the same area.
The Turkish Emergency Management Agency (AFAD) has reported increased seismic activity in the area in recent days. Last month, 284 earthquakes were registered, and in the last week – 122 earthquakes. In the last hour alone, there have been 47 earthquakes, AFAD reported today.
