A 2,000-year-old Roman street was discovered in southeastern Turkey. Excavations are currently underway at Amida Mound, known as the heart of Diyarbakir Province.
Amida Mound was home to many civilizations, such as Hurri Mitanni, Urarty, Assyrians, Medes, Persians, Tigran the Great Kingdom, Romans, Sassanids, Byzantines, Umayyads, Abbasids, Safavids, Ayyubid dynasty, Avartikid, Marwakidis.
Professor Irfan Yildiz of Dickley University is leading the excavations amid tough measures against the coronavirus.
“Very interesting data continue to come from the western side of the mound we excavated. The street texture and structure of that period began to emerge, “he said.
Yildiz noted that during the year during the excavations they expect to excavate many historical artifacts.
Yildiz said tourists will be able to visit the historic region of Ichkale and see the streets of the Roman, Ottoman and Republican periods until 2022.
