A bus overturned in Turkey, killing at least 14 people

A passenger bus overturned in western Turkey early Sunday morning, killing at least 14 people and injuring 18, according to emergency services, quoted by Sabah and BGNES.

The bus got out of control and overturned on the highway, heading to Edremit in the western province of Balakesir.

18 injured passengers were taken to nearby hospitals.

Although rescue teams were sent to the scene, 11 people died on the spot.

An investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the accident.

Another major car crash recently occurred in western Turkey, killing six people and injuring 37 in a bus collision with a truck in Manisa province.

Hundreds of lives are killed in road accidents in Turkey every year.

According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat), 4,866 people were killed and another 226,266 were injured in road accidents across the country last year.

One third of accidents occur due to drivers exceeding the speed limit.
