17,000 earthquakes have hit Turkey since the beginning of the year

According to the Anadolu news agency, about 17,000 earthquakes have been recorded in Turkey since the beginning of the year, with 2,000 of them in the last month.

It is noted that seismic zones in Turkey are located along three main fault lines – in Northern Anatolia, Eastern Anatolia, and the Aegean region. There are also 485 active, less significant fault lines that create an earthquake risk in almost all parts of the country.

According to the Disaster Prevention and Response Administration (AFAD), all of these lines have the potential to cause an earthquake of more than 5 magnitudes. The active fault passes directly through the administrative centers of 24 provinces and 80 regions of Turkey, including the areas of Bursa, Denizli, Erzurum, Izmir, Kayseri, Konya, and Mugla.
