“The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has taken a number of measures to compensate for the decline in the flow of tourists coming to Egypt due to the crisis and the loss of Ukrainian and Russian tourists,” said Dr Khaled El-Anani, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities. He also listed the measures included in the ministry’s plan for missing Russian tourists, and more specifically, measures to replace them to increase the total number of tourists arriving in Egypt.
The five main measures he voiced are as follows.
- Creation of alternative tourist markets.
- Facilitate entry procedures for tourists from most countries in the world.
- Motivation of foreign tour operators.
- Intensification of advertising activities in major markets.
- Encouraging domestic tourism.
“Ukraine and Russia are one of the most important countries exporting tourists to Egypt. The number of Ukrainian and Russian tourists who visited the Egyptian tourist destination in October and November 2021 amounted to 40 to 45% of the total number of tourists received by Egypt in these two months, “the minister said.
According to him, at the moment the Federation of Tourist Chambers is in the process of creating a unit to intensify and promote Egyptian tourism abroad. “This unit will use foreign experts who have experience in the field of tourism promotion. We maintain and maintain close cooperation between the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, chambers of tourism and the Association of Tourist Investors in promoting tourism to Egypt abroad, “the Minister added.
