Istanbul, which has become a major transfer hub for tourists, may surprise them with another airport closure. The reasons for this are not sanctions, but the weather: Turkish Airlines (THY) announced in its social media accounts that some flights were canceled due to heavy snowfall, which is promised by weather forecasters in Istanbul on March 10.
“Passengers of canceled flights to and from Istanbul Airport and Sabiha Gokcen Airport can cancel / refund passengers via the call center, website and mobile app,” the carrier said. He also noted that tourists whose flights have not been canceled have been granted “special rights”:
Tickets issued on or before 9 March 2022 will be subject to the following rules, provided that passengers are registered on all Turkish Airlines and AnadoluJet flights departing, arriving and arriving at Istanbul Airport and Sabiha Gokcen Airport between 10 March 2022 and March 13, 2022: take action by March 21, 2022:
- If a new flight reservation is made before 31 March 2022 inclusive, the change of reservation and route (provided that the new trip is made in the same travel region) is free of charge.
- Return Requests:
a) Tickets that have never been used will be returned.
b) Partially used tickets with which the trip is not completed; Refunds will be made for unused tickets. - Ticket Extension: The ticket can be extended until March 31, 2022 (inclusive) without any fees or penalties.
