In January-March 2022, 6,311,453 tourists visited Turkey. Of these, 4,902,624 are foreign citizens and 1,408,829 are Turkish citizens living abroad. Such data was given on Friday at the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey.
The ministry noted that Turkey’s tourism sector is rapidly recovering after the decline of the first years of the coronavirus pandemic.
According to the agency, tourism revenues in the first quarter of the year reached $5 billion 454 million 488 thousand.
Foreign citizens in the first three months of the year spent an average of $841 per person in Turkey, while local tourists spent $849 on holidays.
The number of foreign citizens who visited Turkey in January-March 2022 exceeded the same period last year by 151.02 percent.
Iran (an increase of 228.43 percent compared to the first quarter of 2021), Germany (an increase of 219.66 percent) and Bulgaria (an increase of 272.44 percent) are leading in terms of the growth in the number of tourists to Turkey. The TOP-5 also includes Russia and Iraq.
