Turkey’s tourism revenue in the second quarter increased by 190.2 percent compared to the same period in 2021, to $8 billion 717 million 103 thousand. This is evidenced by the data of the Turkish Institute of Statistics for April-June 2022.
Thus, tourism revenues in the second quarter increased by 190.2 percent year on year. During the reporting period, tourism revenues amounted to 8 billion 717 million 103 thousand dollars.
According to the agency, 83.8 percent of tourism revenue (excluding spending on mobile phone roaming and yachting services) is received from foreign tourists and 16.2 percent from Turkish citizens living abroad.
Personal expenses amounted to 6 billion 273 million 64 thousand dollars, and expenses for tour packages – 2 billion 444 million 39 thousand dollars.
The average spending by tourists per night during this period was $78. Among foreigners, the average spending per night was $81, among Turkish citizens living abroad it was $65.
The number of tourists who left Turkey in the second quarter increased by 193.6 percent, up to 11 million 939 thousand 131 people. Among them, 87 percent or 10 million 382 thousand 68 people were foreigners, and 13 percent or 1 million 557 thousand 63 people were Turkish citizens living abroad.
During this period, 70.4 percent of foreign visitors visited Turkey mainly for “travel, entertainment, sports, and cultural activities.”
About 14.8 percent arrived in Turkey to “visit relatives and friends”, and 6.7 percent – for shopping.
