The tourism sector in Turkey hopes that current measures to combat the coronavirus pandemic will reduce the number of infections and pave the way for tourists to visit.
“We hope to enter the summer season as a country with a reduced number of cases, and this will have a positive impact on tourism in the summer season,” said Firuz Baglikaya, head of the Association of Turkish Travel Agencies (TÜRSAB). “All we want is not to lose more lives as soon as we can achieve effective results in our fight against the virus,” he added.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on Monday that Turkey will be in complete isolation until May 17 to stop the virus from spreading.
Meanwhile, the Russian tourism sector is looking forward to the resumption of charter flights to and from Turkey on June 1.
Moscow has announced the suspension of scheduled and charter flights to Turkey on April 15 due to concerns about COVID-19.
