Tourists warned about the possibility of terrorist attacks in Istanbul

The US embassy in Turkey has warned Americans of the risk of terrorist attacks in central Istanbul following incidents of Koran burning in Europe.

According to the embassy, “terrorist retaliatory attacks on churches, synagogues and diplomatic missions in Istanbul are likely and inevitable,” as well as other places frequented by Westerners.

The diplomats clarified that the greatest likelihood of attacks is in the Beyoglu area: near the Galata Tower, on Taksim Square, on Istiklal Street.

US citizens have been urged to avoid large gatherings and remain vigilant.
