According to The Sun, foreign tourists in Turkey are warned to carry a photo ID at all times. In the absence of documents, they can be arrested by the police. The rule applies to all foreigners, including Russians.
The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs clarifies that a passport, residence permit, or driver’s license can be considered a suitable identity document.
The agency’s website states: “It is illegal to carry a photo ID in Turkey. You must carry your passport or residence permit with you at all times. In some busy areas, especially in Istanbul, Turkish authorities may stop members of the public to conduct identity checks.”
