Having entered your hotel room, you want to “forget and relax”, apart from the thought that someone else will clean up here. However, tourists are warned: some bed items not only in the hotel room are not washed regularly, and in this case, it is better not to relax.
As a former hotel worker told Reddit, the first such item is a top cover lying on the bed. Although rooms between tourists are cleaned thoroughly, this item is usually washed very rarely. At the same time, even the most careful tourists often have at least a suitcase on the bedspread, since the bed in the room is often the most convenient place for unloading luggage, and what else might be there – “you don’t want to know.”
“Just don’t cover yourself with it, don’t sit on it, at least without clothes, and generally keep the cover away from you. Well, try not to get it dirty in front of the next tourist, ”said the hotel employee.
Another unpleasant “surprise”: often a hotel bed is a “layer cake” of several sheets, so it happens that only the top layer is changed between tourists.
“The instructions say to remake the entire bed after each client. However, the reality is that hotels hire anyone to do the housekeeping job, and many of them don’t care about following the rules and skip cleaning some things to save time, ”says the expert.
And he convinces tourists – if it seemed to you that the linen was stale – ask to change the bed or even the room. And also – a typical British warning – recommends inspecting the corners of the bed “hidden places” for incomprehensible red or dark spots on the mattress and bed linen. And if they are, immediately contact the administration, most likely, this is a signal about the presence of bedbugs.
Another thing, no longer touching the bed, about which the hotel employee warns about the likely “unwashed” is bottles and glasses. But if almost all hotel experts warn about the fact that the mirrors in the room, at best, were rinsed between tourists with cold water without detergent, this specialist also commented on the newfangled “ecological” trend.
“When you get to your hotel room, no matter how thirsty you are, if your room has a reusable water bottle and glasses, call reception immediately and politely ask for a new water bottle and glasses,” he said.
A reusable glass bottle is, of course, good for the environment, but no tourist will be able to know how many guests in the room have seen this water before him, the expert assures. So it’s always safer to ask for fresh water and extra glasses – chances are they’ll be cleaner.
