Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada may receive additional tourist traffic – European tourists immediately began to change from Turkey to Egypt due to the terrible earthquake in Turkey. This was stated by Atef Abdel Latif, a member of the South Sinai Tourism Investors Association, for the Egyptian publication El Watan News.
“Many European travel companies, especially German, Czech, and Polish ones, have redirected part of their scheduled flights to Turkey for February and March 2023 to the Egyptian resorts of Sharm el-Sheikh, Hurghada, and Marsa Alam. The reason was the earthquake that occurred in Turkey in February, which negatively affected the course of life there,” said the Egyptian expert. Also, according to him, Italian companies will start increasing the volume in March.
As a result, the forecast is favorable for Egyptian resorts: the occupancy level of hotels in Sharm el-Sheikh in February this year ranged from 50 to 55%. And this is quite an average percentage compared to the average number of tourists who visit hotels in Egypt every year. According to the expert’s forecasts, interest rates will begin to improve from March.
Hotel occupancy in Sharm el-Sheikh will increase sharply in the second half of March. Many foreign travel agencies will start actively selling tours for spring break in March 2023,” added Mr. Latif.
