An American tourist went on a diving trip with friends in Indonesia but tragically lost her life after being attacked by a shark. Her remains were found inside the predator. The incident was reported by The Sun.
The 68-year-old traveler was diving with six friends on September 26 near Reong Island, located 150 km from the resort island of Bali. During the dive, she was swept away by a strong current, and the guide was unable to pull her back onto the boat. Rescue teams were sent to search for the woman.
The rescue operation lasted for eight days but was suspended on October 3 due to unfavorable weather conditions. Three days later, a fisherman from neighboring East Timor reported finding human remains in the stomach of a caught shark. A black diving suit was found on the body, leading authorities to suspect that it was the missing diver.
Local officials contacted the Indonesian Coast Guard to confirm the identity. Later, the head of the Alor Islands Marine Park Authority stated, “Based on the diving suit found on the victim, it is assumed that it was a diver. The results of the investigation will be released after more complete information is obtained.”
Previously, there was another tragic incident. A 30-year-old German tourist visited a popular resort in the Canary Islands, Spain, and went on a catamaran trip in the Atlantic. During the sea excursion, she was attacked by a shark, which bit off her leg.
