The airport in Sharm el-Sheikh will add comfort and security. We tell you exactly what innovations will appear for tourists in the airport of the Egyptian resort and when.
Sharm el-Sheikh airport will be expanded
The UN-sponsored International Climate Conference, to be held in Sharm el-Sheikh from November 7 to 18, 2022, has become a kind of “Olympics” or “Football World Cup” for the South Sinai resort in terms of large-scale infrastructure changes.
The city is upgrading utilities, building roads, switching to alternative energy, launching electric vehicles, and providing high-speed internet at the hotel.
Changes are also expected at Sharm el-Sheikh airport. Its capacity will be increased from 7.5 million passengers per year to 9.5 million passengers. The project is personally overseen by Prime Minister Mustafa Madbuli, who recently inspected work on expanding the terminal complex.
The first part of the reconstruction of the airport includes the arrangement of entrances and exits from the airport, expansion of the departure and arrival area in Terminal 2, as well as the creation of a modern business lounge for VIP guests.
Improve the comfort of ordinary passengers. The air conditioning system in the passenger lounges will be upgraded and the number of baggage belts will be increased. There will also be an entrance area and car parking.
The second part of the transformation involves the expansion of the aircraft parking area by building a new platform for 29 liners and general technical re-equipment of the aircraft maintenance system.
The terminal will update the baggage screening system
The third part concerns the strengthening of the security system at the airport. Procedures will be faster.
A new baggage screening system will be installed to help speed up the inspection. The video surveillance system and the fire protection system will also be upgraded.
The Egyptian government has set a task to complete the first stage of reconstruction by June 30. The whole set of works must be completed by September 1.
