There will be fewer attractions for tourists in Amsterdam

The capital of the Netherlands will limit the number of tourists who travel to the city only for “dubious entertainment”, and will also prohibit specific types of “pleasures” for them. The DIP concerning the words of the mayor of Amsterdam reports it.

To limit the number of tourists to 20 million by 2024, tourists in Amsterdam will not be allowed to smoke marijuana legalized in the Netherlands on the streets and in tourist areas, and sell cannabis in the red light district on weekends. Public catering will be closed until 2 am, and brothels – until 3 am. “Drunk tourism” is planned to be minimized, and programs and excursions that support “sex” or “drug tourism” will be banned.

The city will also limit the transfer of residential premises and offices to hotels, and the tourist tax during peak hours will double. Among the radical proposals is to move all brothels to a new location.

The restrictions will come into effect in 2023. With the “mass tourism” authorities in Amsterdam are fighting as part of the “Stay Away” campaign.

Similar projects have already appeared in Amsterdam. For example, last year they developed a plan to combat excessive tourism and admitted that they would ban visitors to the city from visiting cannabis establishments.
