According to the Anadolu news agency, the tourist flow to Göbekli Tepe, the world’s oldest religious building located in Turkey, in 2021 exceeded the level of the pre-crisis 2019.
The 12,000-year-old Göbekli Tepe temple complex, included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, is located in the province of Sanlıurfa in southeastern Turkey.
In 2021, it was visited by a record number of tourists – 567,453 people. Whereas before the pandemic in 2019, which was declared the “Year of Göbekli Tepe” in Turkey, about 412,000 tourists visited here.
This indicator of tourist flow was achieved even despite the fact that the first five months of 2021, the megalithic complex was closed to the public due to restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
