The resorts of Egypt in the 2022 season, the weather brings one after another unpleasant surprises: after the winter cold now on tourists in Hurghada, “crashed” Hamsin – a strong desert wind that carries sand and dust storms.
“Strict instructions have been given to close all ports,” Egyptian media reported, citing orders from provincial authorities. “Several strong storms” have already been observed in the Red Sea and this will continue in the near future, although storms do not usually occur in the Red Sea due to its small width.

Tourists are advised to stay in hotels – low temperatures for Egypt and strong winds with dust – not the best time for walks. As experts have previously explained, in Hurghada, anchor winds usually reach about 14 m / s, which lifts sand into the air. This is not dangerous, but extremely unpleasant. It is also recommended to refrain from traveling if possible: sandstorms lead to a sharp reduction in visibility and require extreme caution while driving.
We will add that according to reviews of tourists who are now in Hurghada, except for a sandstorm there is now very cold. “Such a dust storm is now on the way to Hurghada. And it is very cold for Egypt. Until now, the temperature at night in Hurghada is 11 degrees. In my opinion, it’s like plus 5 at home. Such a cold winter and spring has never been on the Red Sea … “, – wrote one of the tourists in her blog.
Reference: Hamsin (literally translated from Arabic – fifty) – a dry, often very hot wind that blows from the deserts of North Africa to the Middle East and Egypt. Hamsin blows for several days, a total of about 50 days a year, mostly from spring to autumn. In the summer months, Hamsin can bring heat above 40 ° C during stormy winds. In spring, Hamsin, on the other hand, is not hot, but at any time of the year it always contains a lot of dust and sand.
