An American Airlines passenger served time in prison and sued the airline in retaliation for a false charge of theft. It is reported by The New York Times.
According to the publication, in May 2020, a duty-free shop was robbed at the Dallas airport. The police found out that the perpetrator was flying on board American Airlines, which was en route to Nevada, so they ordered airline employees to provide data on all passengers on the flight. At the same time, contrary to the requirement, American Airlines gave the police the name of only one traveler – Michael Lowe.
As a result, the police detained Lowe in New Mexico and put him in jail a year after the incident. He was released on bail 17 days later. Later, the man hired lawyers who forced the police to compare Lowe’s photographs with security footage at the airport, which showed the man who had robbed the store. Then all charges against the man were dropped.
After proving his innocence, Low sued American Airlines. In the lawsuit, he accuses the airline of negligence for misidentifying him.
Earlier in June, a JetBlue passenger harassed two women at once during a flight and ended up in court for indecency. After arriving at the airport, the airliner was met by law enforcement officers who immediately arrested the violator. At the same time, the American denies his guilt and does not remember if he touched these women.
