The Maldives hopes to end the year with strong foreign tourist arrivals. The original target of 1 million international travelers was reached in October this year, and in early December the figure exceeded 1.2 million.
Now, according to forecasts of the country’s Minister of Tourism Abdullah Mausum, by Tuesday, December 28, this figure will reach 1.3 million tourists. He wrote about this on his Twitter account, local media reported on December 26.
Russia is among the three leading countries in terms of tourist flow to the Maldives. In total, almost 215 thousand Russians visited the destination this year. India took the first place – 286.5 thousand tourists. Germany is in third place with 90.7 thousand people.
The Maldives reopened its borders to tourists of all nationalities on July 15, 2020. To enter the country, travelers must complete an online health declaration form and have a negative PCR test performed 96 hours before departure.
