Sustainable development, exchange of experiences and their vision of future tourism – what do teenagers aged 12 to 18 think? The Global Youth Tourism Summit will bring together a select group of children from around the world to find answers to their questions.
The First Global Youth Tourism Summit (August 23-25, 2021, Sorrento, Italy) will be the first of its kind globally, allowing young participants to be part of a unique experience, to promote youth participation in tourism and enable the younger generation to make the world more stable.
The summit was organized by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in collaboration with the Italian Ministry of Tourism and the Italian National Tourism Council and was organized by the Italian government as part of its presidency of the G20 this year.
With this initiative, UNWTO joins the rest of the UN family in actively recognizing the vital contribution of young people to the continued development of society.
“Children and young people are not only our future leaders, but also important stakeholders today, and we can expand and engage them today,” said UNWTO Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili. “As the leaders of tomorrow, it is very important that young people participate in shaping the global vision of the future,” he added.
Under the UNWTO General Assembly model, participants will take their own declaration on the future of tourism. The document will be presented at the 24th session of the UNWTO General Assembly (October 12-15, 2021, Marrakech, Morocco).
The event will include a number of interactive events, as well as the participation of leading world figures who will share their experiences in the field of tourism and areas such as sports, music, gastronomy and film industry.
