In Hollywood, it’s not just the stars who get a facelift – the famous monumental sign, on which the name of the famous district of Los Angeles is written in all capital letters, is also getting a face lift, according to AFP.
The iconic sign, erected in 1932 over the studio capital of the world, will be refurbished ahead of next year’s centenary celebrations.
Work on it will begin Monday and last eight weeks, according to the Hollywood Land Trust, the organization responsible for the sign.
After cleaning with a jet of water under pressure, the 14-meter letters will be repainted. A total of 1,500 gallons of primer and white paint were allocated for the procedure.
“This sign is the pride of Los Angeles, and we can’t wait for fans around the world to see it updated for this special anniversary,” said Hollywood Land Trust President Jeff Zarinam.
