July brought demoralization to German tourists. Known for their thriftiness, German travelers are beginning to realize that the usual trips 2-3 times a year to cheap resorts in Spain, Egypt, Greece, and Turkey will no longer happen – because everything is getting more expensive right before their eyes. As a result, the demand for tours begins to fall just as visibly, and German tourism begins to fall into pessimism.
This is shown by the study of the sales climate index prepared by Dr. Fried & Partner. As the researchers assure, although sales in Germany at the moment are still good, the forecast for the future is pessimistic.
The latest news – especially the expectation of a cold winter without gas – demoralizes tourists. As a result, German travel agencies are no longer as optimistic about the future as they were a few weeks ago.
In numbers, this is evident in the fact that the share of tourism experts who positively noted the assumption that “the travel demand will increase in the next 6 months” decreased by almost half in a month. In June, this opinion was shared by 75% of respondents, now this share has fallen to 37%. The share of travel agencies that said “the current situation is good” decreased from 65 to 55%. At the same time, the share of those who said that “the current situation is satisfactory” was 40%. Extreme pessimists convinced that everything is “terrible”, are still in the minority – only 8% of them.
